In September the Moors and Christians festivities are held in Villena, of National Tourist Interest, in honour of their patron saint, the Virgen de las Virtudes, who freed the city from the plague.

The Moors and Christians festivities in Villena are held every year from the 4th to the 9th of September and have been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.

They are the most numerous of their kind in terms of participation, with some 10,000 festival-goers divided between the 14 "comparsas", 7 on the Moorish side and 7 on the Christian side, which together with the music bands, more than a hundred, total more than 12,000 people taking part in the most important parades.
