Program of Easter Week in Verges

More information:

The Verges Procession is an ancient tradition that has its roots in the Catalan theater of medieval times.

It is celebrated once a year and has the participation of the entire town. It consists of two parts.

The first begins with the theatrical representation of the Mystery of the Passion in the Plaza Mayor, with the medieval walls and towers as scenery.

The second continues with the procession that runs through the streets of the town until ending with the Crucifixion.

The Dance of Death is the element that makes the Verges Procession so special. The dances of death were very popular in Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries, following various epidemics, and spread to other parts of the world.

In the past, it was common to find this type of dance in Holy Week processions. Today, all of them have disappeared, except for the one in Verges.
