Every 7th December, the town of Jarandilla de la Vera in Cáceres, Cáceres, celebrates Los Escobazos, a festival of fire in honour of the Immaculate Conception, declared to be of Regional Tourist Interest.

PROGRAMME "LOS ESCOBAZOS 2022"

TUESDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER

  • Explanatory visit to Los Escobazos, by the promotion team to CEIP Conquistador Loaysa (infant and primary) and the San Manuel Children's Centre, both in our town.
  • Afterwards, visit to the Henry Dunant Day Centre in Jarandilla de la Vera.

FRIDAY, 2 DECEMBER

  • From 16:30 hours, workshop and making of broomsticks for children under 12 years of age, in the Plaza de la Constitución. Enlivened with music (songs to the Immaculate Conception).

From Saturday, 3rd December, the new promotional material of Los Escobazos will be available at the Museum of Los Escobazos.

MONDAY, 5TH DECEMBER

  • At 17:00, at the Museum of Los Escobazos, workshop to customize clicks "Playmo Escobazos 2022" (Limited places, in strict order of registration). More information on social networks of the Museum of Los Escobazos.

WEDNESDAY, 7 DECEMBER

  • At 12:00 noon, the GOLDEN ESCOBON will be awarded at the Museum of Los Escobazos, which this year has gone to the Parador de Turismo de Arandilla de la Vera. The event will be enlivened by the festival's promotional team. The promotional video of Los Escobazos, 2022 will also be presented.
    This recognition was created as a special mention for those people, associations, institutions, companies, etc, who develop, have developed or are developing a special work for the benefit of Jarandilla de la Vera promoting and spreading the festival of Los Escobazos and/or our festival itself.
  • During the morning, all those who wish may visit the places where the bonfires are usually placed and attend as observers of the bonfires: Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza del Sopetrán, Plaza Nueva, Plaza de la Soledad, Cuesta de los Carros and streets near and adjacent to these places. In addition to visiting the Museum of Los Escobazos, a place where the whole tradition of this festival is displayed and which is open all year round.
  • At 16:00, the traditional "Petición de la Rosca" will begin, led by the stewards of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción.
  • At 17:00, Holy Mass and Novena in the Parish Church of Santa María de la Torre.
  • At 18:30 there will be a re-enactment of the descent of the goatherds from the mountains. Starting point Puente Parral, route along Calle Marina and arrival at the Plaza de la Constitución.
  • At approximately 19:00 hours, the burning of the escobones begins, thus initiating the festival of Los Escobazos.
  • At 21:00 hours, at the tolling of the bells, the Procession of the Immaculate Conception Banner will begin, leaving from the Santa María de la Torre Parish Church.

THURSDAY, 8TH DECEMBER

  • At 12:00 noon, Holy Mass in the Parish Church of Santa María de la Torre. The Procession of the Immaculate Conception will also take place that day, during which the banner for the year 2023 will be auctioned.

MONDAY, 12 DECEMBER

The deadline for submitting candidatures for the election of the 2023 poster is now open. The rules and details will be published in the RRSS of the Town Hall and the C.I. Museo de Los Escobazos, prior to 12 December.

The deadline for submission is 27 February 2023 at 12:00h. There are two ways to participate, either by creating a poster by the entrant or by sending a maximum of two colour photographs. Entries should be sent to the following e-mail address: museodelosescobazos@gmail.com.
