More information:

One of the most popular festivals and rooted for its unique and peculiar character in Lebrija is the celebration of Las Cruces de Mayo. Normally, it is celebrated the first two weekends of May; specifically this 2024 will be held on 3, 4, 10 and 11 May.

The festival is popularly known as the Women's Festival, due to the enormous participation of women in the festival, of great popular tradition.

The neighbors of a street or square assemble a cross taking advantage of some of those already in the streets or, simply, they make them of flowers, wrought iron or wood, decorating them with pots, flowers, shawls, bedspreads, and various copper utensils. The accompanying instruments are the tambourine and the almirez.

The gastronomy occupies an important place in the Cruces de Mayo: mainly consumed are the "habas corchas" (boiled beans with salt that are eaten cold) and the "caracoles blanquillos de las marismas" (white snails from the marshes) that require a laborious preparation.
