Place: Rota (Cádiz)

Rota turns to its carnival, where the most characteristic is the Festival de Agrupaciones and the coronation of the Sirena del Carnaval and the Sirena Infantil, without forgetting the Sunday parade in which the whole town dresses up.

Friday 10th February

  • 20:00 h. Tribute from the Rota Town Hall. In the chapter house of the Palacio Municipal Castillo de Luna, to the chirigota of Pedro Pablo Santamaría for his career of more than 17 years. And the comparsa 'La Guasona' better known as the comparsa de las Niñas.

Saturday 11th February

  • 13:00 h. Labelling of the Plaza Mina with the name of Plaza 'Bernardo Cala'.

Sunday 12th February

  • XXVI Popular Erizá. Organised by the Peña 'El Camaleón'. In the Plaza de la Cantera.

Saturday 18 February

  • 13:30 h. Chicharroná. In the small square, already labelled with the name of Bernardo Cala. Organised by the Peña Dosa and local shopkeepers.
  • 20:00 h. Parade from Mina Chica with the participation of groups and neighbours. 
  • After this, the opening speech of this year's Carnival, which will be given by 'El Selu' and will take place on the stage set up in the Plaza de España.

Sunday 19 February

  • 12:30 h. Children's parade from Mina Chica.
  • After this, children's Carnival proclamation, which will be given by Luna Resinas Ros, as well as the election of the Mermaid and Neptune of Carnival 2023.

The popular Mejilloná of the Brotherhood of the Nazarene in Isaac Peral Street and the Carnavaleichon Festival Memorial Esteban Ake-Gatón I, of IU in the Plaza de España, which will feature performances by local groups.

Thursday 23rd February

  • 21:00 h. a Gran Festival Carnavalesco. in the municipal auditorium, which will feature the three groups from Rota participating in this year's Falla competition, such as the comparsa roteña 'La Guasona', the chirigota roteña 'Los niños de Isabelita' and the comparsa roteña 'La Tierra'. They will be joined by the chirigota 'Frente Taliban en la República Irreverente de Kadikadistan', original by José Antonio Vera Luque. Tickets will be available for 7 euros (with a maximum of two tickets per person) from 8 February at the auditorium box office from Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 to 14:00 and two hours before the start of the show.

Friday 24th February

  • 17:30 h. In the Plaza de España. Children's show 'Cantatíteres de Carnaval'.
  • 21:00 h. In the Plaza de San Roque 'Noche de Coloretes', with the participation of local groups.
  • 22:30 h. Young people's party, with DJ in San Juan de Puerto Rico.

Saturday 25th February

  • 22:00 h. In the Plaza de España, performance by the comparsa 'El costurero de la reina'.
  • After the performance, the party will continue in the square with a fancy dress dance with a DJ.

Sunday 26th February

  • 16:00 h. Great Parade of Humour, which will depart from the Renfe esplanade. Presided over by Neptune and the Carnival Mermaid accompanied by their Atlantes and Nymphs of Honour.
    The route of the parade will be: Zoilo Ruiz-Mateos, Plaza del Triunfo, Calvario, Veracruz, Paseo Marítimo del Rompidillo, Sgdo. Corazón de Jesús, Zorrilla, Calvario, San Antonio, Juan S. Elcano, Duque de Ahumada, Cibeles, Avenida América, Neptuno, Mª Auxiliadora, Avenida Principes de España, Rubén Darío, Avenida San Fernando (right). The parade will end at the intersection of Avda. San Fernando and Sevilla.
  • Coinciding with the parade, there will be an open costume contest that Fiestas is organising to reward the best costumes registered and participating in the parade with prizes of 100 euros for the best individual, 200 euros for the best couple and 400 euros for the best group costume. Those interested in taking part have until 23rd February to register at the Office of the Delegation of Fiestas, located in the García Sánchez Building.
  • At the end of the parade there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the fancy dress competition in the Plaza de la Cantera.
    Once the parade is over, the Plaza de la Cantera will host the prize-giving ceremony for this competition, based on the jury's decision, who will score the participants from different points. Diplomas will also be awarded to all the AMPAS participating in the parade.
  • During this last night of Carnival, the Blue Sound orchestra will perform.
