Since 1983, before the arrival of Christmas, Arcos de la Frontera has been staging the magnificent representation of its Living Nativity Scene. Come and enjoy a village decorated with care by its inhabitants, who will be dressed for the occasion and invite you to go through each of the scenes of the birth of Jesus.

What is the Arcos de la Frontera Living Nativity Scene like?

Every year, the inhabitants of Arcos de la Frontera take to the streets of the old part of the town to represent the scenes of the birth of Jesus. The streets are decorated with palm trees and illuminated by torchlight, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all those who wish to be part of the impressive Belén Viviente.

The Living Nativity Scene of Arcos de la Frontera has at least 30 scenes, in which more than 400 people, made up of neighbours, associations and brotherhoods, take on the task of keeping alive the tradition of representing Christmas.

You will be surprised by the care with which they prepare each season, you will find artisans, washerwomen, goldsmiths, water carriers, bakers and farmers. You will be able to appreciate that they take care of every detail, even the Baby Jesus is a newborn baby.

Origin of the Living Nativity Scene of Arcos de la Frontera

The origin of this beautiful celebration dates back to 1983, when some 500 residents of Arcos de la Frontera decided to represent the historical Nativity Scene, with as many details as possible, such as the markets and trades of the time.

It should be noted that this celebration has managed to remain in time, thanks to the collaboration of all the inhabitants of Arcos de la Frontera, who give their time, belongings and premises, to offer a very active participation, to recreate this experience that takes us back to another era.
